Intelligent logistics
tailored for you

Why tailor made

Not all logistic chains are created equal. While there are certainly common main elements, it is often the details which matter - and details can be plentiful and diverse.

A tailor-made logistic system brings a perfect fit for given business case, including all its specific details. And this is vital for its practical applicability and usefullness.

Intelligent logistic systems

  • Provide a transparent picture of the full logistic chain
  • Offer advanced planning possibilities
  • Use scientific operations-research based algorithms
  • Act as user-friendly decision support tools
  • Are suitable for what-if analysis and scenario evaluation

Development

MIL Innovation AS has been developing tailor-made intelligent logistic systems since 2006.

Of course, not every tailor-made system is developed from scratch - we build on top of our own developed software platform.

PLATFORM

We develop graphical interfaces that are designed with the end-user in mind, stressing pleasant design and intuitive and effective controlling. The interface is live in the sense that data changes are automatically propagated to all relevant places. So, for example, inventory curves react automatically upon adjustments of delivery amounts and times, etc. This allows for very fast and intuitive operational analysis, where decision consequences are instantly visualised. Data in planning and logistics are displayed with help of our advanced data visualization components (including Gantt charts and resource charts), which can be panned and zoomed without limits and with a high degree of control. When displaying more temporary data (e.g. two charts) at the same time, the displayed time-range is automatically synchronized.

The intelligence of the systems is based on scientific algorithms with roots in operations research and mathematical optimization.

OPERATIONS RESEARCH

Methods of operations research aim at more effective utilization of resources -- capital, time, infrastructure, workforce, material, equipment, etc. This has a positive impact both on the society and the environment. From a single-business perspective, it reduces costs, increases productivity and competitiveness, and augments revenues.

We use customized algorithms and methods to attack specific difficulties that usually show up when standard methods are applied to solve individual problems. As of today we have developed a wide range of algorithms that are available in our toolbox that we use to get a head start when we approach new challenging problems.

We cooperate with universities in Norway, Czech Republic, Hungary, etc. The research carried out in MIL Innovation AS leads to scientific publications in international top-ranked referee based journals like Interfaces, European Journal of Operational Reserach, Kybernetika, Journal of Mathematical Modelling and Algorithms etc. One of our research-based products reached the finals in the prestigious (INFORMS) Franz Edelmann Awards in Miami 2006.

Many of us hold a PhD degree:

Asmund Olstad, PhD, is a professor at the Molde University, Norway. His main research areas are logistics and optimization models for business administration.

David Bredström, PhD, studied at Linköping University, Sweden and received several awards for practical contributions of his research.

Tamas Nepusz, PhD, is an associate professor at the Molde University, Norway, and is an expert in computer science and graph theory.

Matej Tyc, PhD, studied applied mathematics and physics at the Brno University of Technology, Czech Republic.
